April Programs and Events

Spring has officially sprung! It is a season of transformations and rebirth. Things might get a little messy, but we plan to find the silver lining in the uncertainty.

See below to learn about the age-friendly activities that target overall health and well-being throughout the month of April. The following items are facilitated by Golden Age Management owner, Michelle Jamieson.

Active Aging Social Club

Our first Active Aging Social Club is happening TODAY! As you may know, Michelle, received funding from the Community Changemakers Program offered by the City of Brantford, in partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University in Fall 2023.

This funding provides the foundations for a vision Michelle has: to offer an inclusive social group for older adults that is free, accessible, non-task based and hosted in a public space.

This club will be taking place on the first Friday of every month from 1:30p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Steve's Artisan Teas until the end of summer. The club will provide free teas and treats, as well as social prompts to break the ice among participants!

Attendance is by registration only, so please contact Michelle directly or sign up through the website by clicking here.

Seniors Active Living Expo

Not mentioned on our calendar is the Seniors Active Living Expo taking place at Cedarview Church in Paris from 9:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. with lunch provided! Michelle will have a booth with information and resources on services and upcoming programs and events, so stop by to say hi! Click here for more information.

Get Bare: Wellness Workshop

Get Bare is a yoga and wellness retreat dedicated to embracing the pleasures of femininity, vulnerability and embodied aging. The inspiration is to bare your soul by shedding the expectations, standards and roles society places on us. This inclusive, informative, and calming atmosphere at Get Some is intended for people of all ages, abilities, cultures, ethnicities, etc. It is an opportunity to gather in open-mindedness, non-judgement and curiosity. The event includes food and refreshments from a bountiful grazing table, facilitated meditation, introductions and discussion on relevant topics, 1-hour long clothing-optional gentle yoga class, closing ceremony and private shopping access to the store.

The next session is taking place Sunday, April 14th from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.

This is a private event where those interested must submit an application and receive a formal invitation before being granted entrance into the event. Find our more information or submit an application by clicking here.

Yoga Class: Hatha Flow (Sthira & Sukha)

Registered Yoga Teacher, Michelle, continues to offer this age-friendly yoga class at Sacred Spaces in Brantford every Monday night from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Sacred Spaces Brantford is a wellness center, offering massage therapy and yoga classes. The yoga studio offers classes daily for ANY BODY.

This particular class aims to balance both the Sthira and Sukha of our asana practice, we start to see the effects in our daily lives. Sthira is the Sanskrit word for "steadiness," "stability," and "effort." Sukha is the Sanskrit for "sweetness," "joy," and "ease." In the Hatha-style class, we will hold traditional asana poses while incorporating gentle movement to improve overall strength and flexibility. You will feel both the heating and cooling effects of this flow. You can sign up for the Rest and Restore class here.
